Here’s one from the vaults!
I wrote this song in the late 90’s. At the time, almost all the music I was writing would go for my band Charley Marlowe that I formed with the poet Francesca Beard. On that project, I wrote the music while Francesca wrote the lyrics. But from time to time, songs where I’d also write the lyrics would come to me that just didn’t fit Charley Marlowe so I’d put them to one side.
Eventually a few years later when the band split up, I realised that I had a whole load of unused demo songs. I was still honing my craft of course so most of those songs didn’t make the final cut except a song called, Picture of You, which I kept for my first solo album, Leave No Trace, recorded a few years later in 2003.
I hope you’ll enjoy this one from the past.
The image is a painting I made around the same time, a night view from my window in west London.
