The song's premise is also paradox like eyes being ‘Wide shut’. Sometimes they awe neither open nor closed but we see nonetheless.
This is one of the songs on the album in which the instrumental sections are pushed into rhythmic lines that echo and play off each other, accentuating the lyrical themes of repetition and return .
My studio is full of strange and wonderful instruments, I use a lot of these instruments on the album. I didn't want it to be obvious what each instrument was. There's a kora, dulcimer, tampura, xylophone, Chinese violin, a lot of rhythmic stuff just blending in. Like a kid surrounded by his favorite toys, I played all of these instruments for the album.
